Mandatory: Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD)

Indonesia has phased out paper customs forms at major international airports (including CGK Jakarta and DPS Bali). Every arriving passenger or family unit must complete the official Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) online.

  • You can only fill out the form within 3 days of your arrival date.
  • Upon completion, you will receive a QR code to scan at customs after baggage claim.
  • The form is free of charge via the official government portal.

Strictly Prohibited Items

Indonesian law is notoriously strict regarding border control. Attempting to bring the following items into the country will result in severe penalties, immediate deportation, or imprisonment.

Narcotics & Cannabis Zero tolerance policy. This strictly includes recreational marijuana and medically prescribed cannabis (CBD/THC).
Prescription Medicines e.g., ADHD medications containing amphetamines. Must have a doctor's note and embassy clearance prior to arrival.
Pornographic Material Includes digital media stored on laptops, phones, or physical magazines. Phones may be searched.
Fresh Fruit and Plants Strictly controlled to prevent agricultural diseases. Must be declared to quarantine upon arrival.

Duty-Free Allowances

Adult passengers (usually defined as 21 years and over for alcohol) are permitted to bring the following items into Indonesia without paying customs duty:

Alcoholic Beverages Maximum of 1 liter of alcoholic beverages per adult. Excess amounts will be confiscated and destroyed at the border.
Tobacco Products Maximum of 200 cigarettes, OR 25 cigars, OR 100 grams of sliced tobacco.
Mobile Phones (IMEI Registration) If you plan to use a local Indonesian SIM card for more than 90 days, you must register your phone's IMEI number at customs and pay import taxes if the device value exceeds USD $500. Not required if using international roaming.
Currency Limits If you are carrying cash (in any currency) or bearer negotiable instruments equivalent to IDR 100 million (approx. USD $6,300) or more, you MUST formally declare it on your e-CD.
